PRISM Programs

PRISM

The PRISM Project's goal is to achieve a global standard of excellence in K-12 math and science education in support of economic development throughout the Florida High Tech Corridor through the following activities:

  • Supporting and Training Teachers by:
  1. Recognizing best teachers on a regional basis, who will then conduct best practice seminars for their colleagues;
  2. Identifying and evaluating programs in support of hiring, retaining, training and motivating teachers;
  3. Working with local businesses and industries to secure year-round employment dedicated to job-related career education for teachers of science and math; and,
  4. Establishing a "Clearing House" for selected volunteers who wish to serve as math and science mentors for teachers or guest presenters and managing it through the PRISM website.
  • Inspiring Students by:
  1. Promoting participation in math and science competitions; and
  2. Offering a PRISM student scholar program designed to create interest and participation by students in math and science as early as sixth grade.
  • Enhancing Curriculum by:
  1. Surveying businesses and higher education institutions to identify math and science curriculum development ideas;
  2. Identifying and benchmarking state of the art math and science programs and best teaching practices; and,
  3. Leveraging technology by supporting selective promising pilot programs using existing software and Web-based platforms for teaching math and science.
  • Expanding Funding Opportunities by:
  1. Cataloging and evaluating national, regional, and local foundations and government programs funding math and science education.
