PRISM Programs
The PRISM Project's goal is to achieve a global standard of excellence in K-12 math and science education in support of economic development throughout the Florida High Tech Corridor through the following activities:
- Supporting and Training Teachers by:
- Recognizing best teachers on a regional basis, who will then conduct best practice seminars for their colleagues;
- Identifying and evaluating programs in support of hiring, retaining, training and motivating teachers;
- Working with local businesses and industries to secure year-round employment dedicated to job-related career education for teachers of science and math; and,
- Establishing a "Clearing House" for selected volunteers who wish to serve as math and science mentors for teachers or guest presenters and managing it through the PRISM website.
- Inspiring Students by:
- Promoting participation in math and science competitions; and
- Offering a PRISM student scholar program designed to create interest and participation by students in math and science as early as sixth grade.
- Enhancing Curriculum by:
- Surveying businesses and higher education institutions to identify math and science curriculum development ideas;
- Identifying and benchmarking state of the art math and science programs and best teaching practices; and,
- Leveraging technology by supporting selective promising pilot programs using existing software and Web-based platforms for teaching math and science.
- Expanding Funding Opportunities by:
- Cataloging and evaluating national, regional, and local foundations and government programs funding math and science education.
