The PRISM Project

About The PRISM Project

Central Florida leaders are preparing for where we want to be in 20 and 40 years.

  • We want our young people to compete for the best jobs in the global economy right here at home.
  • We want our businesses to find the highest skilled and most productive workers in the world right here at home.

That's why we launched The PRISM Project. We know a strong foundation in math and science is essential to take us where we want to be.

Through PRISM, eight school districts in Central Florida have a built a plan with performance measures to strengthen math and science education in the region so students may excel.

  • Joint efforts to recruit and retain highly qualified math and science teachers
  • Expanded professional development opportunities for math and science faculty
  • Incentives to encourage students to take more rigorous math and science courses
  • Community support for student teams to participate in math and science competitive events.

The PRISM Project is truly a community effort, with businesses, local governments, community organizations and educational institutions across Central Florida stepping up to help the region's schools boost math and science performance.  Other key partners include the Central Florida Public School Boards Coalition and myregion.org, a regional development program designed to ensure Central Florida 's success in the 21st century global marketplace.

What is The PRISM Project?

PRISM (Promoting Regional Improvement In Science & Math) is a 10-year effort focusing on the critical areas of math and science achievement. Its goal it to make our schools the best in the country in math and science education.

How will PRISM achieve its goal?

PRISM's approach is a multi-faceted plan with a variety of strategic elements including:

  • Recruiting and developing teachers with stronger content knowledge in math and science
  • Offering clear and well defined opportunities for business and community support
  • Challenging students with stimulating math and science learning opportunities.

Why PRISM?

Simply put, it makes good business sense.

Central Florida 's position in the global marketplace depends on the education we provide our students today.

Preparing our students with the finest math and science education possible will produce a more competitive, higher skilled workforce for the future.

Better students make a better workforce, and a better workforce makes a more competitive business community and a thriving economy.

Who is leading the charge?

The PRISM Project is a non-profit partnership of educational institutions, businesses and community organizations working together to prepare a globally competitive workforce of the future through research, education and community collaboration.

Eight school districts in Central Florida are already participating in PRISM, and we anticipate more will join the effort .
